Friday, 4:52 PM. I pushed my code. I'd tested it twelve times. Flawless.
Friday, 4:58 PM. Production is on fire.
The laptop now shows a skull and a little warning triangle, which I'm told is not a feature. My manager has questions. QA has questions. A customer I've never met has questions, in all caps.
So I did what any seasoned developer would do. I scratched my head, made my saddest little bear face, and said the sacred words:
"It works on my machine."
Is that a helpful answer? No. Is it true? Absolutely. I can show you. It's right here. Look how well it works.
The fix is simple. We just ship my laptop to every customer.
