Where's the Party?
The invitation said "Beach Cookout, 6 PM. Bring the sausages."
So I brought myself.
I showed up early in my best Hawaiian shirt, red floral shorts, flip-flops, and a lei. Sunglasses on. Both thumbs up. I lit the tiki torch, parked my surfboard in the sand, and grabbed a coconut drink with a tiny umbrella.
Everyone keeps looking at me, then at the grill. Someone just asked if I've "met the buns yet."
I'm sure it's nothing.
Did I misread the invitation? Maybe. But I've never felt more alive, and the sunset is gorgeous.
The cooler is full. The music is loud. Nobody has handed me any mustard yet.
